How to create happiness

May 15, 2017
2 min read

Are you a victim of manufacturing your own unhappiness?

Sometimes we are so focused on how unhappy we are and how much is just not going the way we want that we just keep making ourselves more unhappy and in return… things keep going wrong! If you start your day thinking it will be a bad day…it most likely will. Even if it’s not, you’ll find a way to feel like it was. It’s a crushing cycle. It feels endless….

It doesn’t have to be. It can end. You do not have to live like this. Happiness is achievable! A happy man H. C. Mattern gave this formula, “The way to happiness: keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Fill your life with love. Scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others. Do as you would be done by. Try this for a week and you will be surprised.”

I know what you’re thinking, I was the Negative Nancy who scoffed at the sight of these tips too. I thought, “well duh!” of course that’ll lead to happiness, but it’s not that easy!?! Free from hate? Really, have you met the people I know? Don’t worry? I have a million things to worry about! I had a rebuttal for each of these! Can you think of some?

We hear these things all the time. They are clichés, philosophies, theories…but they don’t actually WORK!? Do they??

Clichés are clichés for a reason!

As Peale says in his book The Power of Positive Thinking, “What is the value of having known these principles all your life if you have never made use of them?” He goes on to talk about the tragedy of having these tools to create a rich life and yet living in self-imposed poverty. If you have been living in a happy less life you may notice that you haven’t been able to fully engage in these activities yet they make such a difference!

You have the power to create your own riches. What’s the point of money, if not to make you happy??? Become rich with joy. Try these tips for a week and let me know how you feel. I know I’ve seen a change!
